Sigma Alpha Iota Recruitment

Just when you think recruitment for Greek associations is over, the music fraternities take their turn in recruiting new members. Phi Mu Alpha and Sigma Alpha Iota are the two music fraternities here at Millikin. Sigma Alpha Iota is a fraternity for women who love music. Their philanthropy, SAI Philanthropy Incorporated, provides money and service to organizations that aim to further music globally. SAI provides scholarships, grants, and rewards to members, composers and educators throughout America. Millikin’s chapter of SAI provides service by working recitals, audition days, and receptions. The sisters of SAI value sisterhood and therefore go support each other at recitals and other events. Currently Millikin has 40 active members and 14 new members in training who are pictured below.

SAI doesn’t have a recruitment process as formal as Panhellenic. Instead, Sigma Alpha Iota had three days of recruitment, two of which were casual games and activities allowing potential new members to chat up the actives and do their best in working for that bid. The third day was a lovely ceremonial night filled with great food, conversation, and songs that were always in tune. As someone who went through Panhellenic recruitment and recruitment for Sigma Alpha Iota, I can definitely say that the difference between the two was incredible. It is clear to tell that President of SAI Lexy Bieber and Vice President of New Membership Kayleigh Bella worked incredibly hard to put on an excellent recruitment process that was smooth and simple as well as understanding to many of the women who were unable to attend parts of some nights due to prior commitments.

Another thing that’s different about SAI recruitment is that many of the women who went through weren’t freshman. It’s not like Panhellenic recruitment where the majority of the women are freshman with a few sophomores and possibly upperclassmen. Instead there was definitely a large number of freshman in addition to the also large number of upperclassmen. SAI is a fraternity that is accepting to anyone of any grade level and really allows for this with the casual atmosphere that is brought to the recruitment process. Any woman who is interested in becoming a sister to SAI should definitely consider it and all of its benefits for the upcoming fall recruitment.
