Deadpool Movie Review

From the moment the film announces that the movie stars “God’s Perfect Idiot” as the lead in the opening credits, you know that Deadpool is not messing around when it comes to comedy. Ryan Reynolds is the narrator to tell this crazy beloved story. Deadpool is a foul-mouthed anti superhero that was created by Marvel. Ryan Reynolds plays Wade Wilson, is a man who is former Special Forces operative who now works as a hit man. He hangs out a bar with other mercenaries, ran by a man named Weasel who is one of Wade’s best friends.  Comedian T.J Miller plays Weasel. Weasel runs a “dead pool” – that is, a betting pool with odds on which one of his patrons is likely to die next. After Wade is diagnosed with terminal cancer, Weasel is convinced that he will be the next to go. Before Wade becomes Deadpool, he meets the love of his life Vanessa who shares all of his wits and values. To but a end to his terminal cancer he goes to a shady organization who is convinced to have the cure to his cancer and so much more. While Wade is there he meets Francis Freeman who disfigures Wade into a mutant creature that has the ability to live forever. Then it is out for revenge against Francis, who turned him into hideous creature and forced him to leave Vanessa. This film does so many things right. Deadpool is one of the first proper superhero movies to come out, in my opinion, and it’s not even a superhero movie. Deadpool plays off the comedic air of the comics and the pays tribute the original stories the fans have loved forever. This movie makes you laugh so hard it hurts, and the visual fight scenes are just stunning. I think Deadpool will change the way we view comic book movies from now on. With it’s R rating, the film utilizes everything that it can and stays as R-rated as possible. Now, I must talk about the fantastic marketing prior to the film. From the romantic comedy posters to get the girlfriends interested in the film and the emoji filled billboards and also the tweleve days of Deadpool Christmas promos on facebook, this film did everything right when it came to promotional tatics. I made everyone excited to see this movie and did not just cater to the already built up fan base surrounding the film. I think 20th Century Fox did a brilliant job in getting this film to theatres and getting the hype that Wade Wilson would have wanted around his film. Deadpool received a certified fresh rating of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes, an 8.5 rating on IMDb, and a 65% rating on Metacritic. Deadpool opened to a fresh $150million it’s opening weekend, and it is only getting bigger in it’s domestic gross. Deadpool became the highest grossing film for February and beat last year’s previous champ Fifty Shades of Grey. I usually will not say this, but go see Deadpool in theatres. This is a film you need to experience on the big screen; it is such a fourth wall breaking and hilarious film that you need to see as soon as possible. Deadpool is in theatres now and won’t be on DVD and BluRay until late June.
