The Most Hyped Movies of the Year

With a new year starting up, this means another year worth of movies. After the 2015 films Avengers Age of Ultron, Star Wars the Force Awakens, and Jurassic World had much hype to them, many don’t think that 2016 could life up to the hype of last year. There are many movies this year that have been hyped.

Two of the most hyped movies this year come from DC Comics with Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad. After 2013’s Man of Steel, DC decided to expand its movie universe first in March with the Man of Steel sequel Batman V Superman which not only continues Superman’s story, but also is set to bring Batman, Lex Luthor, Alfred the butler to this universe as well as give the first film adaptations of Wonder Woman, Doomsday, The Flash, Aquaman, and Cyborg. This film has had fans excited since its announcement in 2013 with each trailer getting millions of views on YouTube as well as many promotions being run around the country. The other film set out this year from DC is Suicide Squad set to be released in August which follows the titular group of villains in a plot that is still relatively unknown. This film is set to introduce the first movie versions of several famous DC villains including Harley Quinn, Deadshot, Katana, and Killer Croc, as well as introduce a new version of The Joker portrayed by Jared Leto.

While DC has two hyped movies this year, Marvel is set to release three. In one of these films Marvel continues with its extended universe with the third Captain America movie Captain America Civil War due out in the spring. This film pits Captain America against fellow Avenger Iron Man in a story based off of the 2007 comic book of the same name. Apparently fans were more excited for this film pitting heroes against each other with the trailer for Civil War beating out Batman V Superman in terms of views on YouTube. Besides Civil War, fan favorite superhero Deadpool is set to receive his own movie in February after many years in talks. Ryan Reynolds is set to reprise his role as Deadpool from the 2006 film X-men Origins: Wolverine. This is one of the rare super hero films to receive an MPAA rating of “R” as opposed to the usual “PG-13” as this film is set to take a darker and violent tone that matches the source material. Due to Deadpool’s popularity on the internet Fox embarked in one of the most outrageous promotional campaigns in history with Ryan Reynolds portraying his character and breaking the fourth wall constantly. Another Marvel film that has been hyped is the upcoming X-Men film X-Men: Apocalypse which features Star Wars star Oscar Isaac as Apocalypse, the world’s first mutant and X-Men villain and is set to take place in the 1980’s and feature young versions of famous X-Men characters.

Besides comic book movies other films that are hyped include many sequel films including an Independence Day Resurgence, a sequel to the 1996 classic Independence Day with Bill Pullman and Jeff Goldblum returning from the first film although Will Smith will not be returning for the sequel. Another sequel film includes Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Out of the Shadows which is a sequel to Michael Bay’s 2014 film with the turtles returning as well as fan favorite characters Casey Jones and villains Rocksteady and Bebop. The Star Wars spinoff Rogue One is also set to be released and will start a line of Star Wars spinoffs that are set to be released on a yearly basis
