Trainwreck Movie Review

Trainwreck+Movie+Review

Amy Schumer is one of Hollywood’s funniest comedians. In “Trainwreck,” Schumer plays a character very similar to her everyday self seeing as she wrote the entire script and starred in it as well. The film begins with Schumer’s father drilling into her head as a child that monogamy isn’t realistic. In her early 30s, Schumer works as a magazine writer for an entertainment fashion magazine. As much as she enjoys a crazy life that is free of commitment, she feels she is really in a rut. She has an assignment to write her first ever sports article on the athletic trainer, Aaron Conners, played by Bill Hader. Schumer finds herself actually falling in love for the first time and she is afraid of how to react. What makes matters worse is that Aaron seems to like her too. Schumer wonders if it is time to clean up her act now that she is falling into a serious relationship with Aaron. This movie is a film that is very funny and relies heavily on Schumer’s shtick. Her humor comes from her real life experiences and it is very relatable to her audiences.

“Trainwreck” will make you laugh and cry. The film is kind of a dramady. Some parts in this comedy are actually very somber and make you feel for Schumer as a person. I was already a giant Amy Schumer fan before seeing this film because of her television show Inside Amy Schumer on Comedy Central. She kind of just came out of nowhere and now she is everywhere! One of the film’s breakout stars is none other than LeBron James. LeBron, who plays himself, has some of the funniest lines in the entire film. I would love to see him continue acting because he really has great comedic timing. Amy has won Emmy awards, Glamour awards and may even be nominated for an Academy Award for best screenplay of “Trainwreck.” Schumer seems to be a frontrunner for the award, if she were to win it would completely establish her in Hollywood.

The director of the film Judd Apatow, known for ‘The 40-Year-Old Virgin” and “Knocked Up,” works perfectly with Schumer’s writing. Apatow is known to direct and write Bromance comedies of year. For this film, Schumer takes the reigns and kills it in her first of many comedies. This film has many pop culture references and some hilarious one liners as well. Overall, “Trainwreck” performed very well at the box of office when it was released this past July. The film racked up $110,038,130 for only a $35 million dollar budget. It grossed up to $138,326,983 worldwide.

“Trainwreck” also received 6.6 on IMDb, a 3 out of 4 from Roger Ebert and 85% on Rotten Tomatoes. Universal had four of the biggest hits of the summer with “Pitch Perfect 2,” “Jurassic World,” “Minions,” and “Straight Out of Compton.” “Trainwreck” really proved to be a smash for the studio and R rated comedies, after “Magic Mike XXL” and “Ted 2” underperformed. “Trainwreck” is such a great movie for anyone to enjoy. Schumer will have you laughing from the beginning to end. She has a very blunt and in your face humor that may not appeal to all. But, I am a fan of her and I hope this is only the beginning for her career. “Trainwreck” is available on DVD and BluRay on November 10th.
