Jessica Mauboy is a British songstress who is having a fantastic time right now singing and performing. She started as “Julie” in the “The Sapphires,” She starred in “The Sapphires” with fellow Australians Deborah Mailman, Shari Sebbens and Miranda Tapsell and Irishman Chris O’Dowd. “The Sapphires” premiered at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival to great reviews. Right now, Jessica is one of the hottest young creative exports and multi-talented artist out of Australia.

She can always be found smiling when she performs. Her smile is infectious and her vocals are powerful as she always put on an energetic show to get the crowd on their feet. Her vocals are a perfect blend of Pop and R&B music genres. She produces tracks that you can groove to as she belts soulful refrains with gleeful upbeat melodies. She has been dubbed the Australian version of Beyoncé and when she performs it’s clear this comparison is correct. She can sing the house down as she commands the stage with her brassy soulful fierce vocals and electric gyrations across the stage. Her third album “Beautiful” is described as her “most honest album and most confident recording to date.” She laments, it perfectly “reflects who she is and where she’s come from.” She continued, “I worked extremely hard on this one. It’s much more personal. I’ve been really hard on myself with this album. And it’s exactly what I wanted and sounds exactly as I imagined it would.”

Jessica Mauboy grew up in Darwin which is in the Northern Territory of Australia. She was the runner up on the fourth season of “Australian Idol” in 2006. She released her debut album “Been Waiting” in 2008 and scored double platinum sales which means this album sold 2,000,000 or more. This album earned her seven ARIA (Australian Recording Industry Association Music Awards) nominations, which earned her a win for highest selling single for her tune “Running Back” featuring Flo Rida. Her second album “Get ‘Em Girls” was a top 10 ARIA album and generated four multi-platinum selling singles.

In 2013 she released her third album “Beautiful.” ‘This album was recorded in a swift faction. She went straight into the studio immediately after she finished promoting “The Sapphires”. Mauboy explains the recording process was quite intense and it kept her from friends and family. “It has been, I guess, a whole new emotional journey and ride. There was a lot of doubt that went into this record, and emotion and heartbreak.” She truly poured her heart into this album and has the writing credits for most songs on the album. Mauboy exclaims, “I feel I really have pushed myself. I gave myself a challenge and I got through it. I felt like I stepped back, and really reviewed the album and took time to reflect. It was about not trying too hard, and singing the songs and I wanted to allow them to breathe.”

She let them breathe but she didn’t go at alone. “Beautiful” was accomplished with the help of some international producers. She collaborated with Pitbull on the track “Kick Up Your Heels” and again with L.A.-based production and writing house Orange Factory Music who produced and co-wrote “Kick Up Your Heels.” Orange Factory has previously worked with Lil’ Wayne, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake and Beyoncé. She also worked with American producers and songwriter duo The Fliptones who produced and co-wrote the title track “Beautiful” and “Kiss Me Hello”. The Fliptones have worked with the likes of Jason DeRulo and Britney Spears. One stellar hit she has on her hands is “This Ain’t Love” a high energy arrangement that’s reminiscent of a groovy disco record. It sparkles from the first note and keeps the party going until the very last note. “Can I Get A Moment” is a funky up-tempo and the perfect essence of soul music. It utilizes percussion and horns, brawny beats and handclaps to supplement Jessica’s superb vocals. It’s sublime celebration of independence and fun with lyrics such as “Hold up baby! Won’t you let me get a little space? No disrespect, I’m not impressed right now I’m doing me.   You do the most. You’re way to close. It’s hard for me to breathe. Can I get a moment? Can I get a moment?

“Beautiful” is such a “simple song but so effective,” explains Jessica. The song draws inspiration from Stevie Nicks and Fleetwood Mac. “I can hear it in the song. It’s my favorite on the album.” Jessica admits she’s excited, anxious-even, ahead of the release of her new album. “Beautiful” represents a mature Jessica Mauboy. “I’ve got to the stage where I know what I want to make my music sound like. It has been that process where I’ve had to sit and be really picky and have a disagreement with myself and my music. I’ve made the “Real Jess,” the real me and I want to be more honest with me before I’m honest with anybody else.” I hoped this helped you get to see a little glimpse of phenomenal artist. The sooner you get to listening to Jessica Mauboy the sooner you will get to dancing and grooving and moving your feet to the nonstop party and fun there is to be had.
