Nightmare on Craven Street

Nightmare on Craven Street

My whole childhood revolved around Wes Craven films. I loved watching Wes Craven films, but I had to suffer through the late night terrifying thoughts that Freddy was coming for me. My mother didn’t usually approve of my horror movie addiction, because it ended up with her having to share her bed with me due to the nightmares that would inevitably follow.

Every Wes Craven film I’ve ever watched has instantaneously become one of my favorites. Slasher films from the 90s cannot be compared to the horrible ones coming out these days in theatres. Wes Craven films are classics and will forever remain in the hearts of horror film fans all over the world.

Wesley Earl Craven, also known as Wes Craven, is an American film writer, director, actor and producer famously known for his revolutionary outtake on horror films. Wes Craven was born on August 2, 1939 in Cleveland, Ohio. Craven was known for his creation, “A Nightmare on Elm Street.”

“A Nightmare on Elm Street” is a series of slasher films that consist of nine films, novels, comic books and television series. Freddy Krueger is the character the films revolve around. Krueger even in present day is still known as a great horror movie character, because he is so sick and twisted, which gives each movie an everlasting appeal.

Craven was also known for his directing of the four films in “The Scream” horror movie series, and his input in the creation of the character Ghostface. Ghostface is the killer that the films are based on and is known to be one of the most gruesomeserial killer. Ghostface was a success because “The Scream,” the first movie of the series, is currently one of the highest-grossing slasher film in the United States.

Craven also wrote and directed the 1977 horror film, “The Hills Have Eyes.” This film is a cult classic and was one of the first horror movies I’ve ever watched. It was this movie that sparked my love for movies that have anything to do with families stranded in a dangerous situation, and trying to survive.

Craven’s films are so well written and beautifully executed, which makes them so enjoyable. Wes Craven, to horror films enthusiast all over the world, was a legend and his passing was the most devastating news. He died on August 30, 2015 due to brain cancer.

Craven’s passing was tragic, but the realization that the legacy he left behind will live on forever is comforting. The horror genre was redefined by the films Craven directed and produced. He created countless pieces of art that will live on far past any foreseeable lifetime. He created characters that impacted many people all over the world and continues to inspire others to do the same.

Craven’s passing comes as a devastating realization that the genius himself will not be creating anymore amazing films, but I’m hopeful that his films work as an inspiration to another brilliant writer.

Tonight in memory of the greatness, that is Wes Craven I will be watching all of “The Nightmare on Elm Street” movies.
