Millikin Theatre Season
A new semester at Millikin means that it’s audition season again. All the students of the Department of Theatre and Dance are gearing up to start this semester’s productions.
The first show of the season is The Ladies Man. The Ladies Man is a farce by Charles Morey which has been described as a tale of mistaken identities and coincidence according to Morey’s website. The Ladies Man opens up on Feb. 25-28 at 7:30 in Albert Taylor Theatre and a matinee on March 1 at 2.
The second show of the season is a musical review entitled The World Goes ‘Round by John Kander and Fredd Ebb. The World Goes ‘Round will feature music from popular shows such as Cabaret, Chicago, Kiss of the Spiderwoman, Woman of the Year. The show will travel through a wide variety of popular music tunes that will have the audience humming along. The show opens on Apr. 24 at 7, and will run through the 26 with a 2 o’clock matinee in addition to the 7 o’clock show on the 25. The show will take place in Albert Taylor Theatre.
The third and final main stage show of the season will be Equinox. Equinox, as Millikin students already know, is the spring dance concert. This show is will open on May 8 with a second performance on May 9 at 7:30 each night. The show will take place in Kirkland Fine Arts Center.
In what is certain to be a semester filled with laughs, musical theatre classics, and inspiring dance, audience members will be captivated by Millikin’s talent once again. Just as the semester is beginning to take off, Millikin announces what shows they plan on staging for the next school year.
Next year’s schedule will pack two well known shows. The Department of Theatre Dance plans to stage The Little Shop of Horrors, a musical comedy about a young man who acquires a magical plant that begins to turn the protagonist Seymour’s life around. There’s only one little problem, Seymour’s magical plant needs blood to live.
The next well known of the season will be The Addams Family musical. The story follows one of the most well known families as they deal with their young daughter Wednesday Addams growing up and meeting a nice young man to fall in love with. The show is guaranteed to have audiences on the edge of their seats as they wait for the conclusion of this story about the iconic family.
Rough Magic by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa is sure to delight audiences with its humor and modernized telling of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
The final show is the play Blood Wedding a tragedy by Federico Garcia Lorca. The upcoming season will sure to be a great one.
