Album Review: Songs of Innocence
This week, the album I chose to review is “Songs of Innocence” by U2. U2 is a band that has been around for a long time. U2 is an Irish rock band from Dublin that formed in 1976. The band members include: Bono with vocals and guitar, The Edge with guitar, keyboard, and vocals, Adam Clayton with bass guitar and Larry Mullen Jr. with percussion. The band’s sound in the beginning was post-punk but grew into popular genres.
U2 formed when the members were teenagers and were in school together. In four years they signed with Island Records and came out with their first album titled “Boy.” They became an extremely popular band with millions of fans all over the world. With fifteen albums, many tours, two movies, and about 230 songs with six number one hits, U2 is a widely known band.
The new album, “Songs of Innocence,” has caused quite a controversy among Apple iPhone users. Apple released the new album for free, automatically downloading it onto any iPhone user’s Cloud. In theory, it’s great because who doesn’t want a free album? The only problem with this is that there is no way to delete the album off a user’s phone- like it or not.
Personally, I believe it is a pretty good album. I would not say this music is really to my taste, but I do believe it is good to relax or do homework to. The lyrics of each song are very deep and tell meaningful stories that can tear your heart apart with just one listen. Seeing it listed as a rock album does not do it justice, I would say it is more soft rock because of the relaxing factor. My favorite song off of the album is “Every Breaking Wave.” If you have an iPhone, you have probably already seen the album pre-downloaded, but if not or if you do not have an iPhone, go ahead and take a listen! This album became available to public on Sept. 9.
