Rundown On the Upcoming Season

It’s a new school year and new semester, which means that over the course of the next few months, Millikin’s Department of Theatre and Dance will provide the campus with an array shows guaranteed to please all.

All of Millikin’s main stage shows permits each student to one free ticket to the production, so you budget conscious students have no excuse to miss a friend’s show.

Millikin’s first main stage production, “The Whipping Man,” by Matthew Lopez, opens Oct. 8 and runs through Oct. 12 in Albert Taylor Theatre. The show tells the story of a wounded Confederate soldier who returns home on Passover and must rely on his only two remaining former slaves to save his life as they confront their past.

“Peter Pan” takes flight in Kirkland Fine Arts center Nov. 14-16. This exciting musical is based off of J.M. Berrie’s timeless tale of never-ending youth and a mythical land full of suspense. The surprises and lessons to be learned are sure to capture the audience’s imagination, amaze the young and remind the old what it’s like to be young again.

The final show of the fall semester is William Shakespeare’s “Measure for Measure.” This show opens Dec. 10-13 in Pipe Dreams Studio Theatre. “Measure for Measure” is a play that examines morality and what happens when boundaries are pushed. Originally labeled as one of Shakespeare’s comedies, this play has come to be classified as one of Shakespeare’s problem plays.

In addition to upcoming shows the main stage season has to offer, Kirkland Fine Arts Center has a very exciting line-up coming to campus as well. The shows listed below are only a small sampling of the upcoming talent coming to our campus.

KFAC’s first show is “American English,” which is a tribute story to the iconic band The Beatles. This show has a one-night engagement on Friday, Sept. 5 at 7:30 pm.

Following “American English,” KFAC presents, “The Hit Men” on Sept. 13 at 7:30 pm. The show will feature former stars from Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Audience members will be in for a night of infectious hit songs.

On Saturday, Oct. 11, KFAC will host a special one-night performance with Millikin alum Sierra Boggess at 8 pm. The show will feature an array of music as we celebrate talent from our university.

“Golden Dragon Acrobats” takes to the KFAC stage on Nov. 1 at 7:30 pm. This show is sure to capture the audience’s attention with its blend of contemporary and traditional style. The performance is sure to leave the audience in awe.
