Movie Review: Ender’s Game

Do you like science fiction? What about thrilling military battles? Now, how about awesome special effects and a beautiful musical score?

If you enjoy all of those listed above then you’ll certainly enjoy the new movie “Enders Game.”

Released in late 2013, Enders Game is based off the 1980s science fiction novel by Orson Scott Card. It’s set in the Earth’s future, which relies heavily on its military. The heavy military theme is based off a previous attack by “Buggers” where many of Earth’s citizens were killed. After the first battle a military school was founded. This is where we meet the protagonist Andrew “Ender” Wiggin who is a trainee at the school.

Ender is an interesting character, he’s a rare ‘third’ – in this future families are only allowed to have two children you have to pay to have a third.

Soon enough Ender goes to Battle School, this is much like modern day boot camp, which is in orbit around the Earth. He is subjected to massive amounts of bullying and severe isolation from many of the other cadets and Colonel Graff. Ender advances quickly through the levels of Battle School and then graduates to Command School.

Throughout his journey of Battle and Command School Ender plays a video game. One that is meant to track his mental stability but soon shows that it is far more than just a game; from showing him his sister for the first time in months to showing him his path that will further his timeline deeper into the series of books.

In my option this was one of the best science fiction movies to come out recently, also it is everything you’d want from an action movie. There’s alternate futures, aliens, action, fights, futuristic games, anything a fan of action and sci-fi would positively love. Not only that but the movie’s special effects are simply breath taking and so well done. And from the music major in me the score is beautiful as well!

This movie that came from the pages of Orson Scott Card’s award winning series is most defiantly one to check out. Not only is the movie a great choice if you have the time you should also check out the series. I’ve just started the first book, but it has been a great read.

If you love action, suspense, future technology, aliens, and space, this movie is one for you. I give it 4.5 out of 5.
