Book Review: Leading with the Heart by Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K)
Many sports books are written addressing the rags from riches issue, or from a standpoint of how to accomplish something. Mike Krzyzewski (Coach K) has written neither of these types of books, but a book that explains and shows how to Lead with Heart. It is a book that also shares successful strategies for basketball, business, and life. Coach K is one of the most successful basketball coaches in the history of basketball and many people look up to him. As he wrote this book, many were excited about the potential success and help it could bring to many aspects of a person’s life.
In this amazing book, “Coach K talks about leadership-how you earn it, how you practice it, and how you use it to move your organization to the top. From the importance of trust, communication, and pride, to the commitment a leader must make to his team, this inspiring book is a must-read for anyone who loves college basketball-or who simply wants to win in any competitive environment today” (Amazon).
When reading this inspiring story, I enjoyed every aspect it brought to the table. It was thought provoking and really brought a new light on everyday things that I would do and how I can improve on them. By bringing a leadership aspect to this book, it was very interesting to me because I have a lot of leadership rolls on campus. I know that I am not perfect, but could work on trying to be a better leader everyday.
Coach K helped me see how I could be more organized from bottom to top and how to instill inspiration and motivation with those I work with. It was a fantastic book not only because of the usefulness of the book, but also because it brought athletics into the picture as well and how to be a great person overall. My friend Blake Reynolds loaned to it me because he loved the book and highly recommended it. I am very excited that I took time to read this book because I notice the subtle differences I make now everyday in order to become a better friend, mentor, and leader, due to the motivational and inspirational leadership and experiences that Coach K provides in his book Leading with the Heart. I give this book 5 out of 5 stars.
