Seriously… I’m Kidding
5/5
“Sometimes the greatest things are the most embarrassing,” Ellen DeGeneres’ book Seriously…I’m Kidding discusses. It is hard to remember what good times even mean with the stress of mid-terms and trying to figure out how to get that passing grade. It is even harder to remember what it feels like to hold a book that was not assigned on a syllabus. However, what better way to de-stress about schoolwork and personal drama than to read a lighthearted book that will make you laugh until you cry and have you finishing with a smile on your face? That book is Ellen DeGeneres’ Seriously…I’m Kidding and seriously, it is hilarious.
Non-Fiction autobiographies are not typically on the top of my To-Read list, but when I saw that DeGeneres had a book out, the desire to know what comedic gems were in this book was too strong. My hopes were not shattered. Seriously…I’m Kidding is a comedic gem that should be read by anyone who is looking for a reason to laugh. The passion and energy DeGeneres has on her talk show jumps off the pages and into readers’ hearts.
Not in the mood for a long chapter? DeGeneres has a chapter in “txt tlk.” Do you like to color, but afraid people will judge you? DeGeneres has a coloring chapter that is filled with fun and random pictures to color in. Looking for some insight on the life of a celebrity who has been waiting years for a sequel to Finding Nemo? DeGeneres tells it all. This book is for all ages, which DeGeneres flat out tells her readers in chapter one.
Seriously… I’m Kidding not only has perfect comedic timing that will have you laughing until you are blue in the face, but DeGeneres talks about serious moments in her life, like her decision on coming out and how people told her she would fail in the business after making that decision. There are many inspiring quotes DeGeneres mentions, such as Ben Sweetland’s “Happiness is a journey, not a destiny,” that will make you feel happy to be alive.
Seriously… I’m Kidding is a feel-good book for any person looking for a laugh. It had me rolling around on the ground while reading it and it will have any reader appreciate life and start to see the positive outlook DeGeneres describes.
Seriously…you should go read this book.
