Nominees for 2013 Academy Awards

The 85th Annual Oscars Award Ceremony will go live on television Feb. 24 and with this being only a short amount of time away, here are the nominees for the most anticipated categories:

Best Picture

“Amour”
“Argo”
“Beasts of the Southern Wild”
“Django Unchained”
“Les Misérables”
“Life of Pi”
“Lincoln”
“Silver Linings Playbook”
“Zero Dark Thirty”

Story continues below advertisement

My guess: I’m torn between “Lincoln” and “Zero Dark Thirty.” They’re based on
historical people and events but take you past the history book text and headlines.

Best Leading Actor

Bradley Cooper in “Silver Linings Playbook”
Daniel Day-Lewis in “Lincoln”
Hugh Jackman in “Les Misérables”
Joaquin Phoenix in “The Master”
Denzel Washington in “Flight”

My guess: Once again, I am torn. I’m thinking Hugh Jackman or Denzel Washington
because they are two of the best actors a live

Best Leading Actress

Jessica Chastain in “Zero Dark Thirty”
Jennifer Lawrence in “Silver Linings Playbook”
Emmanuella Riva in “Amour”
Quvenzhané Wallis in “Beasts of the Southern Wild”
Naomi Watts in “The Impossible”

My Guess: Jessica Chastain. If you starred in a movie that happens to be nominee for best
picture, that says something.

Best Supporting Actor

Alan Arkin in “Argo
Robert De Niro in “Silver Linings Playbook”
Phillip Seymour Hoffman in “The master”
Tommy Lee Jones in “Lincoln”
Christopher Lee Waltz in “Django Unchained”

My guess: Tommy Lee Jones because I’ve seen the movie and it was good.

Best Supporting Actress

Amy Adams in “The Master”
Sally Field in “Lincoln”
Anne Hathaway in “Les Misérables”
Helen Hunt in “The Sessions”
Jacki Weaver in “Silver Linings Playbook”

My Guess: Anne Hathaway. The role she plays is way different from the ones I’ve seen
her play in the past and she did a really good job in this movie.

Best Animated Feature Film

“Brave”
“Frankenweenie”
“ParaNorman”
“The Pirates! Band of Misfits”
“Wreck-It Ralph”

My guess: I think it’s a tie between “Frankenweenie” and “ParaNorman.” They both have that ghouly feeling to it but is entertaining at the same time. I think they’re the best thing since “The Nightmare Before Christmas.”

Best Directing

Michael Haneke for “Amour”
Benh Zeitlin for “Beasts of the Southern Wild”
Ang Lee for “Life of Pi”
Steven Spielberg for “Lincoln”
David O. Russell for “Silver Linings Playbook”

My guess: Steven Spielberg. Again, I really liked the movie, “Lincoln.”

Other categories include “Cinematography,” “Costume Design,” “Feature Documentary,” “Short Documentary,” “Film Editing,” “Foreign Language Film,” “Makeup and Hairstyling,” “Music,” “Porduction Design,” “Short Film,” “Sound Editing,” “Sound Mixing,” “Visual Effects,” and “Writing.”

Be sure to tune in to find out which lucky nominee will be awarded the Oscar for outstanding work.
