Review of Sibs Weekend

Millikin’s very own UCB hosted a lovely bunch of campus activities for Sibs Weekend on Friday, April 8th and Saturday April 9th 2016. The campus activities were thrown to have students bring their siblings, friends etc. to for some food, fun and entertainment.  This year’s Sibs Weekend had an animal theme with Madagascar playing in LRTUC on Friday at 8pm and or families and siblings were welcome to partake in the Blues Brothers Revue playing at Kirkland Fine Arts Center at 7:30pm. On Saturday the 9th, Millikin University’s Quad was filled to the brim with food, fun and prizes.

There was not a shortage of activites to do that proved to put smiles on everyone’s faces that day.  Students, families’ siblings etc. could get their likeness drawn from a caricature artist located inside Shilling Hall or they could partake in any of the numerous games and activities located on the Quad. The line for the caricature artist was so long at one point it appeared to barely fit inside of the building and almost spilled outside of the building, to get themselves drawn. “Ker Plunk” was just one of the games located on the Quad. For those of you not familiar with the game, it’s where you pick and pull sticks making sure marbles and in this case colorful plastic balls don’t fall from their perch. The objective of the game is to pluck sticks from the game while leaving the plastic balls untouched and the one with the fewer balls at the end wins. One wrong move makes all the balls go as the names says “Ker-Plunk.”  While that was the objective of the game little kids seemed to not get that concept and they just wanted to pull out sticks and watch all the balls topple and spill out onto the ground.

The atmosphere was fantastic and the music and sun was drawing people to the Quad where fun was to be had by all especially on the inflatable rock climbing wall set up on the grassy part of the Quad. Siblings and parents etc. young and wise kicked off their shoes socks etc. to climb to top of the inflatable rock climbing wall. There was nonstop line for the rock climbing wall it was a crowd favorite. Pizza Hut cheese, sausage and peperoni pizza was delivered and was quickly gobbled up.

The IEA (Illinois Education Association) sponsored a trivia game where participants were encouraged to answer questions about animals like “what is the fastest land animal” to win such prizes and trinkets as “Finding Dory” fruit snacks, stuffed animals and whole boxes of Crayola crayons. Lining the steps down to the Quad there was a larger than life game of Jenga which depending on who you ask, was the cause of much excitement or a lot of fierce competition between siblings, family members etc. Tye-dying took place near the inflatable rock climbing wall everyone had their own way of rubber banding their shirts to tye-dye them. Some people rubber banded their shirts in one long log while others balled it up and created sections either in a circle and or a square shape. The completed shirts were laid out in the sun but due to the chilly nature of the weather they were dried but were a bit damp at the end of the day.  All the fun was not confined Millikin University beautiful campus as there was free Milli-van rides leaving from the Arrival Court to The Scovill ZOO from 1 to 3:30pm. To cap off the night siblings and families etc. were shuttled to Lincoln Square Theater downtown to see Flexible comedian Jonathon Burns and Millikin University Concert Committee’s ICON show where students sang their hearts out as popular artists such as Katy Perry and Hayley Williams from Paramore. Sibs Weekend ended with a bang and fun was had by all.
