Kim Davis Walks Free

After months of breaking the newly instated constitutional law that states all individuals have the right to marry regardless of gender, Kim Davis was finally arrested. She was a public worker whose governmental job was to give marriage licenses to all eligible couples. However, Judge David Bunning released her because once she entered police custody her office started issuing the licenses. Bunning’s requirements for her release were that she would do nothing to prevent further licenses from being issued. If she doesn’t comply she will be forced to come to terms with the full extent of the law.

At her release she was mostly silent. She did however dance out to the song “Eye of the tiger.” At the end of her release presentation she did tell everyone thank you for believing in her and that, “I just want to give God the glory.”

Republicans Supporting Kim Davis Struggle

Some Republicans are using Kim Davis’s arrest and struggle for their own political campaigns. She has turned into a conservative beacon of hope for those who are against the pro homosexual laws that have been passed recently. They are using her arrest and eventual release as a platform for religious freedom instead of human rights. Candidates like Ted Cruz and Mike Huckabee are saying that this is proof that the Supreme Court ruling goes against the constitution and it’s an example of “Judicial Tyranny.”

They keep driving points that the people should stand up and be able to work their jobs without going against their consciences. This extremely conservative response to this event has helped rally together other republicans and given them more fuel for their homophobic hate fire.

Trans Student Struggle

Hillsboro High school in Missouri has prevented transgendered student Lila Perry from using the women’s bathrooms. Almost 150 of her classmates staged a walkout in protest of her use of the women’s restrooms. While she does have a gender neutral bathroom at her disposal she no longer wants to be segregated from the rest of her gender.

This is a potentially historical fight because transgendered teens and adults are at a higher risk of being submitted to violence in the restroom, even the gender neutral ones. She has around 40 supporters who have been standing with her.
