Senior Spotlight: Amanda Morgan

Meet Amanda Morgan, this week’s senior spotlight. Amanda has been running track and field since her junior year of high school at Homewood Floss More. More recently she’s been on the track team here at Millikin since her freshman year. She said that it has been a long journey, but she is glad she chose Millikin for track because no other team has the family feel like we do here.

Amanda’s expectations for this season are simple, to win. She wants to finish in the top three in the CCIW conference. Amanda wants to throw over 13 m in shot-put, which is her favorite event. She hopes to work with the team for her last season and just go out with a big bang. One expectation in particular is to continue to become one team. In the past, every event-group has been their own separate team, but this year they’re all working together to cheer on and motivate one another in competition. She is excited to see how the rest of the year will go.

Amanda is an Accounting and Information Systems double major. She chose those two majors together because she loves the challenge. Accounting was quite difficult, says Amanda, but she pushed through it anyway. She found a passion for information systems through her love of technology, and Prof. Richard Podeschi made her feel like she could make it in that field. Amanda claims it is a great major combination. She also would recommend the Information Systems program here because “it’s ”. After college she will be working for State Farm in Dallas, Texas as a business analyst. She says it is a great opportunity for her to go and network with different individuals from a different area. She is really excited for the transition. Also, Amanda is training in CrossFit and hopes that one day she will be in the CrossFit games.

Amanda said she could sum up her experience here at Millikin in one word, home. The first day she stepped on this campus she felt loved. From the students to the staff, she felt like she was home. “Millikin and the people here have honestly made me feel like I can do anything”, says Amanda. She has made lifelong friends here and says that “that is going to make graduation so much harder”. She has made friends that have helped her evolve into something great. She is the president of the multicultural student council and she is an athlete here on campus. She never thought that she could do both, but the people here made her believe she could do it. She said that she wanted to give up so many times but knowing that she wasn’t just doing this for her anymore, made her stick with it. She was doing this for her family, her friends, and most importantly the people who believed in her when she didn’t believe in herself. She says that when she comes back to Millikin after graduation, she knows she will have a home.
