News UCB bowling night

On March 17th, 2016 UCB welcomed students to a night of FREE bowling! Students were transported from the arrival court in Millivans to Spare Time Lanes starting around 7:30pm. Although students were free to drive themselves to the event if they wanted. This bowling event was hosted at Spare Time Lanes just before Spring Break.

Spare Time Lanes is a lovely bowling alley located at 2870 North Jasper Dr. near Big Lots on Pershing. The atmosphere at Spare Times Lanes is fun and very genuine. There was a great turnout of people and a couple of students even brought their own bowling balls to have fun night out with peers and friends. From 8 to 10pm students were bowling their hearts out at Spare Time Lanes. Groups of Millikin Students quickly got together and formed teams to bowl on their perspective lanes. This bowling night was full of food, fun and laughter. There was nothing but fun competition in the air with bowling balls flying down the bowling lanes to knock down pins.

The students bowling with their own bowling balls was a clear indication this is not their first rodeo. Over all this entire event was a complete success. There wasn’t anyone not having fun and or having a smile on their face while they were bowling. It was like a total scene out of Grease 2 except without all those flashy bowling uniforms and choreographed song and dance moves. Students were treated to a bowling night with 3 games each and those 3 games went by fast.

The first step of the night was getting our bowling shoes on and tightened and next up was getting the perfect sized ball to bowl with. One that isn’t too small or big so our hands fit just right but preferably one that isn’t that too heavy. After picking out the bowling ball next up was inputing our names into the system and getting started bowling for the night.  Millikin students were not the only people partaking in bowling as others including families and a bowling team were also bowling at Spare Time Lanes that evening. Overheard in the bowling alley besides the sounds of bowling balls knocking down pins and returning to their perspective lanes were calls on a microphone alerting people that their pizza, nachos and burgers etc. were ready.  Excellent games of bowling were taken place from lanes 9 to lanes about lane 22.

It takes time to get into a groove when bowling if never bowled before and or if this was your first time bowling in a while. Personally I didn’t knock any pins until the fifth frame of first game and even then I only knocked down very few pins. It didn’t matter to me, what mattered to me was that I was having a good time with my friends. Sike, I wanted to knock down all 10 pins and win the game and I almost did in the second game. Nothing felt so good than knocking down 8 pins and picking up spare where the pins were split.  The camaraderie in the air was in full effect and I made sure to celebrate the little and big victories as did all the students bowling that day. At the end of the day I don’t anyone wanted the bowling to end we were having so much fun. UCB hosted an amazing fun and recreational bowling night and if you missed it, not to worry just be on the lookout for more awesome community building events planned for this semester. If you want to be on the planning and implementing side of UCB don’t be afraid to come to their open meetings currently held Mondays at 9pm in the Lindsay Schaub room of RTUC.
