The Future is Now: Polaroid

Many know Polaroid as the classic camera. Instagram’s logo is that of the old Polaroid: a camera with a big lens and a rainbow stripe across the middle. It reminds us of a simpler time where you could just take a picture and it would immediately print out. There was no hassle of going to the local Walgreens and having to get the pictures printed (which usually took hours).  It was the first click and go.

Even in today’s day and age, this is difficult. We are usually stuck to just taking pictures with our smartphones and with that there is the difficulty of having to post them on Facebook, then put the photos on a flash drive, and finally going to Walgreens again to get them printed. You can still get old fashioned Polaroids, but they are extremely expensive and their photo paper is hard to come by. But now Polaroid is in the process of releasing this old favorite with a new twist. Welcome the Polaroid Socialmatic to the camera scene.

This new product has all of the classic features. It prints the pictures from the camera and has great picture quality. The pictures it prints are on a 2X3 picture with no need to refill any ink. This makes for easy memory making. The photo paper is called Zink. This paper is smudge, tear and water resistant. This makes it a perfect material for a portable camera. However it is its new features that set it apart. This camera has a touchscreen on the back with application capability. This, with its wifi connection capability, makes it easy to share pictures on your favorite social media network. You can also browse the internet or check your email while using this camera. This Polaroid is supported by Android software to make it capable of doing all of these things. You can also customize the outer image of the camera. You can change the upper and lower half of this camera from its classic casing.

This camera is the perfect example of the marriage between old and new. It takes an old concept and makes it reborn. The Polaroid Socialmatic is to be released to the public market sometime in the fall of 2014. While no price range has been announced yet, it can be expected to be up there in range until it has been on the shelves for a while.
